over the hill

We decided to head over the hill to the cabin for a little R & R before school starts back up on Monday.  So we packed up our gear and headed out for a nice birthday weekend for M.  What made it more fun was that the Hulst family got to join us for part of it! We had hoped for the white stuff, but instead got beautiful sunshine & cold temperatures.  Instead of sledding the kids played by the river...doing what kid's do best:  throwing rocks, playing with sticks, breaking the ice....and maybe breaking thru the ice a few times!  It was a wonderful relaxing time - glad I went through all that work to pack everything up!  You would think we were going somewhere for a week by the looks of the Yukon when everything was packed up!  :)

I'm actually in a picture!  Yay!
Beautiful children, beautiful country!
Our attempt at a selfie!
Yay for fun with friends on our bikes in January!

After throwing huge rocks on the ice and it did not make a dent in it, the dads decided to check it out themselves!  Yep...it holds their weight...therefore the kids can have fun on the ice too!

Brookie had to be in the mix as well

On a funny side note:  the kids thought it was awfully funny that Oma & Opa have a telephone that is attached to the wall!  Yep - they live in a cell phone only home!  They heard the dial tone...and wondered what that was all about, then after trying to call Oma & Opa and getting a busy signal...they wondered what that was all about!  Too funny to think of the techy world in which they live!
